Gary Meredith, 80, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on December 24, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ossie Meredith, and younger brother, Carroll Meredith.
Survivors include his son and wife, Steve and Debby Meredith, and three grandchildren, Maizyn, Tate and Gage, and also his older brother, Larry Meredith.
Mr. Meredith was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., and remembered fondly as maybe the best basketball player ever from East Tennessee, averaging 28 points and 10 assists a game his sophomore year, earning him All State honors, only to have his career end due to polio the summer of 1953. He was King of his Class in 1955, then attended UT. He was a Chemist at Memorex for 28 years. He will be missed.
A service will be held January 6 at 2 p.m. at Gap Creek Christian Church, 1840 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton.
