Roger Carver

Roger Carver, 78, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Roger was born in Elizabethton to the late Howard and Lorene Simerly Carver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Deadrick.
Roger retired from Snap-On Tools and had previously driven a truck for Newton Transportation. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a former trustee of the church and a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. Roger loved to tinker with his Jeeps, enjoyed cars, loved being in the mountains and spending time with his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Lois Carver, of the home; six nieces, Alice Marie Pendergast (Mike) of North Carolina, Ann Taylor (Javy) of Elizabethton, Debbie Bishop of Johnson City, Joyce Salyer (Roy) of Elizabethton, Lisa Pierce (Phil) of Kingsport, and Karen Southerland (Brian) of Nashville; one nephew, Michael Southerland (Joan) of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Virginia Grindstaff of Elizabethton; and five brothers-in-law, Owen Grindstaff and wife Dee, John Lewis, Marvin Grindstaff, Bill Milhorn and Byrd Deadrick and wife Ellen, all of Elizabethton. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive, as well as two special friends, Harry B. Crowe and Bill Fritz.
A service to honor the life of Roger Carver will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 5, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Music will be provided by Dale Williams and Joyce Salyer. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Ensor Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Harry B. Crowe, Byrd Deadrick, Bill Fritz, Javy Taylor, Nicholas Lyons and James Morley. Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Williams, Glen Ensor, Ken Nidiffer, Tom Milhorn, J.B.
