Cyclones pull out broom to sweep South Rebels

While winter was throwing a chilling grip on the outside, the Elizabethton Cyclones were bringing the heat to the visiting Sullivan South Rebels in varsity basketball as Elizabethton swept both varsity contest in Three Rivers Conference play.

The Lady Cyclones took a 67-56 overtime thriller while Coach Lucas Honeycutt’s squad notched a 62-55 victory in the night’s final contest.

In the opener, the Lady Cyclones saw South turn an early first-half deficit into a 31-21 advantage at the break as the Lady Rebels outgunned the Lady Cyclones 24-4 in the second quarter.

However, Coach Lucas Andrews Lady Cyclones weren’t about to run and hide as Elizabethton rallied in the second half to tie the score at the end of regulation 50-all.

The Lady Cyclones caught fire in the four-minute overtime filling the nets for 17 points while holding South to only six to earn the 67-56 win.

Destiny Little led the Lady Cyclones with 17 while Kaylen Shell pumped in 16 points in the win. Abby Compton led South with 11.

In the nightcap, Parker Hughes lit up the Rebels for 17 points to led the way for the Cyclones. Hughes had quality help as Adam Cornett chipped in 12 points and Eric Wilson tickled the twine for 11.

Luke Pollack netted 14 points to show the way for South while teammate Cole Layne contributed with 12.
