Dawn A. Sexton

Dawn A. Commerdinger Sexton, 51, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, following a brief illness. Dawn was born on May 26, 1966 in Long Island, N.Y., to the late Alois Schepp Commerdinger and “Nip” William Commerdinger of New Hampshire. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Christensen.
Dawn moved to New Hampshire from New York during her senior year of high school, then moved from New Hampshire to Tennessee in 1990. She graduated from Newport High School in 1984 and married Dwayne Sexton on June 7, 1986. Dawn worked at TPI on the paint line as a line leader and loved her job. She enjoyed NASCAR, gardening, baking, cake decorating and most of all, she loved being a mom and a grandmother. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Those left to cherish her memory, in addition to her father, include her loving husband of 31 years, Dwayne Sexton, of the home; her children, Nicole Jenkins and husband Tim (28), Michael Sexton and wife Ashley (26), Samantha Sexton (14) and Jacob Sexton (9); her siblings, Sandy and Tony Hatchett of George Mills, N.H., Noreen Roth of Newport, N.H., Buddy and Michelle Commerdinger of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Linda and Ritchie Jones of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Chris Christenson of New Hampshire; and her grandchildren, Alexander Jenkins (6), Ava Jenkins (2), Jubilee Sexton (1) and Jensen Sexton (due in March). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Dawn A. Commerdinger Sexton will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, January 26, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Warren Jones, Bishop, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 27, in the Ritchie Cemetery in Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession. The family would like to thank the staff at Sycamore Shoals ER Department, the doctors in the ICU Unit of Johnson City Medical Center and Nurses Rita and Amber, and Bill and Kathy Sexton for all their help.
