Salle Myers

Salle Myers, 85, of Hampton, went home to be with the Lord in Heaven on Thursday, January 18, 2018, from Sycamore Springs Assisted Living in Elizabethton. Salle was born in Huntingdon, Pa., to the late William Russell Foster and Gladys Pauline Crum Foster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Megahan, and two sisters, Sherry White and Nancy Foster.
Salle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Hampton Christian Church. Salle and her husband, Irvin, went to high school together, started dating in 1947 and got married in 1949. They were married at “Brethren Church” in Huntingdon, Pa. She was the devoted mother, raising her children alone for 3-1/2 years while her husband was deployed in Korea and Vietnam. Salle sang in the church choir, went on mission trips and taught Vacation Bible School and Big A for four years. She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed sewing, visiting nursing homes and loved children.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years, Irvin G. Myers, of the home; three daughters, Sandra Gillespie and husband John of Apple Valley, Calif., Susan Creger of Hampton, Tenn., and Paula Hamilton and husband Alan, also of Hampton, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Sean Gillespie and wife Rachel, Chris Gillespie and wife Adrienne, Aubrey Hamilton and wife Cassie, and Zachary Hamilton and wife Nicky; eight great-grandchildren, Mariah Gillespie, Makayla Gillespie, Brook Gillespie, Graham Gillespie, Brennan Gillespie, Olivia Hamilton, Gage Hamilton and Collin Hamilton; and two sisters, Jackie Gibbone, of Huntingdon, Pa., and Bonnie Hamman of Arvada, Colo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Salle Myers will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 25, at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Wayne Calhoun officiating. Music will be under the direction of Greg Odom, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Friday, January 26, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Sean Gillespie, Aubrey Hamilton, Zachary Hamilton, John Gillespie and Alan Winter. Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Gillespie. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff of Sycamore Springs Assisted Living-mental care facility department and to Amedisys Hospice for the love and care given to Salle during her illness.
