Norman Eugene Smith, 91, formerly of Elizabethton, Tenn., husband of Clara Estep Smith, died at his home in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
Norman attended Elizabethton City schools, East Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee at Knoxville earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and University of Central Florida in Orlando where he was working on a MS in Computer Science Engineering.
Norman retired from Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin).
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clara; daughters, Vickie Phelps, Elaine Smith and Jeanne Smith; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, James L. Smith Jr. of Memphis, David S. Smith of Knoxville, and Earnestine Baker of Johnson City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lamar Smith and Rowena Matherly Smith, and infant brother, David Grant Smith.
Norman will be buried at Mountain Home Veteran’s Cemetery on Friday, March 23, at 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to Milligan College, William and Miriam Rigdon scholarship foundation.
