Spring Clean-Up 2018 — Join the staff at Roan Mountain State Park for a trail maintenance work day to clean up winter deadfall and get the trails ready for spring and summer visitors. The event will take place from 1 until 4 p.m. Please dress in layers for variable spring weather, as it can still be quite chilly in March in Roan Mountain. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, work gloves, and sturdy boots. Please bring drinking water and snacks. This hike/project is considered moderate to strenuous and is suitable for participants ages 14 and older. Letters for volunteer service hours completed can be provided. Meet at Park Headquarters.
Sunday, March 25
An Afternoon of Early 19th Century Dance with the Sabine Hill Social Society — 1-4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Beginners and seasoned dancers alike are all welcome! The afternoon will include English Country Dance and early Appalachian dance techniques.
Old-Time Music Jam Led by Art Lang — 1:30-4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Enjoy the rich musical traditions of our region each month. Old-time musicians of all levels are welcome. Don’t play an instrument? Come on over, kick back, and enjoy the tunes.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Taylor Hollow Cemetery in Taylor Hollow will hold a meeting at 3 p.m. at the U.S.C.C. Building, 2719 Highway 91, Elizabethton. Please try to attend to discuss cemetery maintenance.
Easter Egg Hunt 2018 at Roan Mountain State Park. Begins promptly at noon! Enjoy some family fun at Roan Mountain State Park with a traditional Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 10 and under. Egg-hunting, candy, prizes, and a special “hop-in” visit from the Easter Bunny all get underway promptly at noon at the Park Amphitheater. Don’t be late… those eggs go fast! Kids, don’t forget your Easter basket to collect the eggs! Meet at Park Amphitheater.

The Watauga Post No. 49 American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary will meet at the Post Home on Watauga Avenue. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with business meetings to follow. All Legionnaires and Auxiliary members are urged to attend. Any veterans interested in becoming a member of the post is invited to attend.

Carter Mansion Celebration & Militia Muster — 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Join us for two days of history, traditional arts and family fun as we celebrate the oldest frame house in Tennessee, and the historically prominent Carter family. Travel back to the 1780’s and tour the Carter Mansion. Witness living history reenactors demonstrating aspects of 18th century life, and see local craftsmen showcasing traditional skills. This event takes place at the Historic John & Landon Carter Mansion located at 1031 Broad St., Elizabethton.

The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 17 Elizabethton will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church. Membership in the Auxiliary is open to anyone who is interested in serving our local disabled veterans. More information is available at the DAVA Unit 17 Facebook page.

Plant Auction — 9 a.m. until noon at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. An exciting array of unusual ornamental & native perennials, trees and shrubs will be auctioned during this event. A great opportunity to add new species to your landscape! Sponsored by The UT Extension Service, East Tennessee Nursery Assoc., and the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce.
Songs and Tunes at Sabine Hill from 2-3:30 p.m. Do you enjoy experiencing history as it would have been? Listen to melodies with roots in Europe and Appalachia ring through the halls of one of Tennessee’s finest examples of Federal architecture. Meet Ranger Corbin Hayslett at Sabine Hill to learn about the musical melting-pot that was frontier Tennessee and how people from around the world shared culture through song. Meet at: Sabine Hill State Historic Site 2328 West G. Street, Elizabethton. Tickets are $10 for adults, $3 for children age 7-17, and children age 6 and under are admitted free.

Community Plant Exchange from 9-10 a.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. The front parking lot will be bustling this morning! Bring cuttings and potted outdoor and indoor plants, to exchange for species you don’t have — a fun way to meet other gardeners and increase your collection.
