After falling behind early, the Lady Rangers came alive in the fourth inning to get past North Greene, 5-3, Stoney Creek Tuesday.
The win makes the Lady Rangers 4-0 in the Watauga Valley Conference and 6-2 overall.
With the Lady Huskies on top 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Unaka’s Tayla Potter smashed a 3-run triple before being brought home by an RBI single from teammate Sydney Markland. The Lady Rangers’ first run of the inning came as Unaka’s Katlyn Weaver, who reached with a single, was walked home.
“Tayla got a good base hit to right field and it cleared out the bases,” said Unaka head coach Kenneth Chambers. “That was a really big inning for us.”
At the plate, the Lady Rangers finished the game with 10 hits. Unaka, however, would finish the game with 19 left on base as they saw many opportunities to put the game away slip past as the Lady Huskies made plays on the field.
“We had chances to score,” said Chambers. “We kept getting people on, but they would make a good play in the field. We would hit it right at them and they would make plays. Against a good team like North Green, we can’t keep leaving people on bases and expect to win.”
The Lady Huskies got on board in the third as they recorded a 2-RBI single while another runner came home on a wild pitch.
The Lady Rangers saw seven innings of work from senior pitcher Corie Schuettler who racked up 12 strikeouts against three walks. Schuettler had three hits and three runs against her.
Unaka will travel to Johnson County Thursday.
