Randal Lewis is officially announcing his candidacy for re-election as Carter County Trustee in the upcoming May 1, 2018, Republican Primary.

“As the Carter County Trustee, I have always considered it to be an honor and privilege to serve each of you,” Lewis said. “I, along with the help of my dedicated staff, will continue to address any issues you may encounter as a taxpayer, in the most professional and efficient manner possible.”

Lewis was first elected to serve as Carter County Trustee in 1994 and has consistently been re-elected by the citizens since that time.

“Since I have taken office many changes have taken place in the Trustee’s Office. Our office utilizes computer systems that are updated and are efficient for payments, as well as very user-friendly for attorneys and others who have need to research payments and taxpayer records,” Lewis said. “The office also has the convenience of accepting debit and credit cars by phone and online, and recently added the use of credit cards in the office. The Trustee’s Office also accepts partial payments.”

According to Lewis, Carter County ranks as one of the top counties in Tennessee for Tax Relief.

“Of the 95 counties in Tennessee, Carter County ranks number 9 in taxpayers who receive relief either as elderly, disabled, or a totally disabled veteran or the widow of a totally disabled veteran,” Lewis said. “This is a program that, along with Carter County Relief, assisted with the taxes of over 1,955 people in Carter County in 2016. This increases yearly, and I am proud that my staff and I strive to offer our assistance in their application for this program and stay trained in the latest changes and updates to the program.”

During Lewis’ first year of property tax collection, he said the taxes owed to the county were $8,331,953. In 2017, the taxes to be collected were $21,397,024.

“We have consistently collected these taxes with no audit findings in our annual examinations,” Lewis said. “My office has an open door policy for any questions or concerns from the people of Carter County.”

Lewis has been married for more than 35 years to the former Kim Davis. The couple has two children — a son Chad Lewis and his wife Brittany Scott Lewis, and a daughter Andrea Lewis. They have two grandchildren, Gracie and Carter. Lewis and his family are members of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church, where he serves as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Lewis is a member of the Tennessee Trustee’s Association and has previously held the office of Treasurer for the organization. He has completed the University of Tennessee’s Center for Government Training Program, and is designated as a Certified Public Administrator.

“I am proud to be an official for Carter County, and I ask for your vote of continued support on May 1, 2018, in the Republican Primary and also the General Election on August 2, 2018,” Lewis said.
