Sam Raynor, 70, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2018, following a long courageous battle with cancer.
Sam was born in Chinquapin, N.C., and moved to East Tennessee in 1963. He was the son of the late Frank and Hazel Raynor.
Sam loved his family and friends. He never met a stranger and had such a deep compassion for everyone he came in contact with. He never passed a car he didn’t have to look under the hood, and his life-long passion was drag racing.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by both of his sisters, Emmie Lou Ricker and Linda Carol Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Dawn Estep Raynor; his two daughters, Tiffany Smith (Carl) and Christy Banks (Tom); four grandchildren, Derek, Dylan, Brittany Smith and Jacob Banks, all of Erwin; several nieces and nephews; and his long-time friend, Shawn Seaboch, whom he considered a son.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Morris-Baker. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Elder Terry Henderson and David Haller officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the mausoleum chapel at 9:45 a.m. Pallbearers will be selected from his family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Jamal Maatouk, NPN Myra Blankenship and the entire family at the Johnson City Wellmont Cancer Center who fought along with him during his journey. Also, the staff of Amedisys Hospice who lovingly cared for Sam during his final days on Earth. Memories and condolences may be sent to the Raynor family via www.morrisbaker.com.
