The Rotary Club of Elizabethton will hold its 47th Annual Bean Dinner at the T.A. Dugger Junior High Cafeteria, West E Street at Holly Lane. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 per person and may be purchased at the door or from club members or T.A. Dugger Jr. High students. Carry-outs will be available along with corn dogs and chips for children. For additional information, call 423-543-2221.

The Waters of Roan Highlands of Roan Mountain, 146 Buck Creek Road, Roan Mountain, will host Community Bingo from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Mike Williams of Caris Healthcare of Johnson City. Invite your friends or family for refreshments, laughs, and prizes.

Friday, April 20

The Elizabethton Senior Center, 428 East G St., will host Breakfast and Bluegrass from 7-10 a.m. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes biscuits, gravy, sausage, pork tenderloin, scrambled eggs, hash browns, apple butter, juice and coffee at a cost of $7. Tickets are on sale now or pay at the door. Carryouts available. Music will be provided by ETSU’s “Bluegrass and Firelight,” from 8:30-10 a.m. Plan to be here. Everyone is welcome. Saturday, April 21

Decoration Day will be held at noon at the Williams Cemetery on House of Prayer Road. Families who have loved ones buried in the cemetery are invited to come by and see the work projects that have been accomplished. Financial contributions are also needed to help with future maintenance of the cemetery.

Hampton Lodge No. 750, 509 First Ave., Hampton, will have a Bean Dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. The dinner consists of soup beans, fried potatoes, onions, slaw, dessert and drink. The public is invited to come out and enjoy some great country cooking. Cost is a donation of $6.

The Carter County Republican Party will hosting an Open House at 12:30 p.m. at its headquarters, located in the Ritz Mini Mall in downtown Elizabethton. All candidates for County Commission and Constable are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome. A Country Breakfast will be held at Fairview United Methodist Church from 7 to 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy good food and great fellowship. The breakfasts, which are held every third Saturday of each month, consist of bacon, fresh ground sausage, tenderloin, eggs, pancakes, gravy and biscuits, cinnamon apples and more. Cost is by donation with proceeds to benefit Missions Programs. The church is located at 878 Highway 81N, about five miles from downtown Jonesborough.

Carter County Proud will participate in Carter County’s 3rd Annual Earth Day Celebration at the Covered Bridge Park. The event is being sponsored by Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition. Those participating will meet at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 321 and Elizabethton Highway at the ball field by the recycle center. The group will clean up the Tweetsie Trail, starting where they meet and continuing to the Covered Bridge. Trash bags will be provided. Please wear appropriate footwear with traction and bring gloves.

Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site will be hosting a clean-up day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are needed to join the Mid Appalachian Highlands Hiking Club and AmeriCorps Representative Rebecca Proffitt to help with the beautification of the grounds and natural areas at the heart of the site’s property. The clean-up day will be held in recognition of Earth Day, a national day of service that centers on community efforts to beautify outdoor public spaces. The group will be tackling some much needed landscaping projects, including brush removal, weeding, tilling, and creating some new flower beds. This clean-up day is the first step in a long-term project to replace historic tress and enhance the natural beauty of the site.

Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications, and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming.

Rocky Top Gun Permit School will offer a handgun carry permit class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, starting at 8 a.m. Ken Potter, a veteran law enforcement officer, is the instructor for the class. Cost of the class is $55. You will need to bring your weapon and 50 rounds of ammo. Potter says for those who haven’t yet purchased a gun, loaner guns are available. Carter County Proud is partnering with Elizabethton Lowe’s and Carter County Parks and Recreation on a beautification-landscaping project. This event is planned to celebrate Arbor Day. The group will be planting native trees, shrubberies and then mulching the plot. The plot is on the Tweetsie Trail at the corner of Mary Patton Highway (SR362) and West G. Street. Kickoff is at 9:30 a.m.

Community Plant Exchange from 9-10 a.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. The front parking lot will be bustling this morning! Bring cuttings and potted outdoor and indoor plants, to exchange for species you don’t have — a fun way to meet other gardeners and increase your collection.

The Blevins Cemetery meeting has been rescheduled due to Election Day falling on the first Tuesday in May. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church Fellowship Center.
