Prep Tennis: Cyclones storm past Unicoi

Wednesday afternoon, the Elizabethton tennis teams closed out the regular season with a Big 9 sweep of Unicoi.
On the boys’ side of the net, the Cyclones rolled to an 8-1 win over the Blue Devils.
At the No. 1 spot, EHS’ Blaye Davis won 8-0 over Unicoi’s Trey Hatcher while Cyclones Jacob Lipford bested Blue Devils Noah Stevens, 8-1, in the No. 2 spot.
Elizabethton’s Garrett Barnett, Luke Carrier, Patrick O’Quinn, and Nate Wetzel all picked up wins in the three through six matches.
Davis and Lipford won their doubles match 8-0 while Barnett and teammate Tyson Vance fell to Unicoi’s Ben Hensley and Aaron Manzanares.
In girls’ action, the Lady Cyclones tore through Unicoi, 9-0.
Elizabethton’s Carole Sweely topped Unicoi’s Brandolyn Thomas, 8-0, at the No. 1 spot. Elizabethton’s No. 2, Jordan Teague, squeezed past Lady Blue Devil Winter Day-Honeycutt, 8-6. Elizabethton’s Regan Armstrong, Carmen Spriovero, Susanna Digby, and Rachael Lamb all had wins to help the Lady Cyclones’ cause.
The doubles team of Sweely and Teague would take 8-4 win in the No. 1 doubles spot. The doubles teams of Armstrong/Spriovero and Digby/Lamb also won their respective matches.
Elizabethton will begin play in the Big 9 Conference tournament Monday at Science Hill. The boys will go in seeded fifth, while the Lady Cyclones head in seeded fourth.
