Sullivan South moves past Warriors

The postseason road came to an end for the Happy Valley Warriors Saturday during the District 1-AA baseball tournament in Johnson City.

The Warriors couldn’t find enough production at the plate as Sullivan South escaped with a 4-1 win.

“It is unfortunate,” said Happy Valley head coach Brad Hill after Saturday’s loss. “We played really well tonight. We couldn’t have asked for a better performance from Nolan on the mound. He pitched great. We had our opportunities. We just couldn’t get the hits when we needed them. Our defense played really well.”

Hill pointed out the effort put forth by his team Saturday, especially, the eight senior Warriors.

“Our seniors made some really good plays,” said Hill. “Landon Morefield had a double play in the first inning. Will Hampton had that play up the middle. He deserves an opportunity to play at the next level. The more you watch him. The more surprised you get. The way that Eli Fleenor went after that ball in the left-center field gap landing against the wall and making the catch. They just played their hearts out tonight, and I know they will be successful in whatever they chose to do.”

Both teams combined for five hits with HV getting four to South’s one. Morefield finished the game with two hits for the Warriors.

The Rebels scored a run in the first inning before scoring two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Happy Valley’s lone run came in sixth as Morefield hit a deep double to score courtesy runner Dylan Willis to cut South’s 3-0 lead to just one run.

On the mound, Happy Valley’s Nolan Easlic worked a complete game as he struck out four batters against five walks. Easlic had just one hit on him.
