Bill Bartz

Bill Bartz, age 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 11, 2018 at his residence. Bill was born in Schenectady, New York to the late William F. Bartz, Sr. and Mildred Batholts Bartz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Hyatt Bartz; one son, Charles Hyatt; two daughters, Carol Staples and Gail Hyatt; one grandson, Stacy Adams, Jr.; one granddaughter, Lori Ann Adams; and one brother, Bruce A. Bartz.

Bill was a United States Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam on the USS New Jersey and also served at the Bay of Pigs on the Destroyer, the last ship he served on was the USS Seattle.  He retired from the Navy and later he retired from Kennametal. He was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist church in Elizabethton and enjoyed hunting, fishing and painting pictures.

Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Deborah Ann Carlson and husband David, of Stephenson, MI; two sons, Bob Hyatt and wife Glenda and David Bartz and wife Christine, all of Elizabethton; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Smith, of Schenectady, NY; a brother, Brian Bartz, of Greeneville, SC; and a sister-in-law, Sue Bartz, of Mentor, KY. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Bill Bartz will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Gary Whitehead, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday; or at the residence at other times.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 AM on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the American Cancer Society, 861 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.
