It is with great sadness that the family of Goldie Wallace-Clark announces her passing on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, at the age of 97 years old.
Goldie was born on Simerly Creek to the late Cad and Minnie Young Hyder. She had been a resident of Elizabethton for 78 years.
Goldie received her cap and graduation certificate from the first class of practical nursing of the Johnson City Vocational School on March 20, 1959. She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Carter County Memorial Hospital and Sycamore Shoals Hospital, retiring in 1987.
She and her husband Arnold were dedicated members of the Betsy Squares Square Dancers. They traveled the USA with the group.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased in death by her first husband of 48 years, Arnold Wallace, in 1985; a son, Eddie Wallace, in 1967; a granddaughter, Cindy, in 2017; and brothers, Floyd, Fred, Arnold, Albert and Ralph Hyder.
Goldie is survived by her loving second husband of 30 years, Bill Clark; two sons, Alton and Romley (Lena); and a daughter, Wynonna “Donnie” (Bob) Murphy. She is also survived by her husband’s children whom she loved dearly, John (Marsha), David (Sue) and Wayne (Sandy) Clark. Grandchildren are Al Jr., Nathan, Rom II, Wallace, Tammy Petrina, David (Thumper), Judy, Sandra, Robert and Kenneth Murphy. She has 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two much loved sisters-in-law, Wilma Wallace Donner and Erma Wallace Burgess.
Funeral services for Goldie Wallace-Clark will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jacob Guinn officiating. The eulogy will be given by her grandson, Al Wallace Jr. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers are David “Thumper” Murphy, Wayne Clark, Matt Clark, Mikey Clark, David Clark, John Clark, Al Wallace Jr., John Clark and Rom Wallace II. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4255. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
