Armetta Blevins Hunigan

Armetta Blevins Hunigan, 81, of Piney Flats, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at NHC of Johnson City. She was born in North Carolina, a daughter of the late John F. and Mary Haynes Blevins.
Armetta retired from Sprint Telephone Company with 43 years of service. She was active in Ruritan, being selected National Ruritan of the year in 2012, served two years as District Governor and two years as Lt. Governor for the TN District. She was also given Proclamation by Sullivan County in April 2013 and another Proclamation from the State of TN in May 2013 for her outstanding work in her communities and she was given recognition for Piney Flats Days Festival and the Piney Flats Historic Village. She also organized a new Ruritan Club in Bluff City, Tenn. Armetta was a member of Borderview Christian Church but attended Piney Flats First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Armetta was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Hunigan; two half sisters; and three half brothers.
She is survived by great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Glenwood Cemetery with Dr. Allen Davis and Rev. Jamie Ferguson officiating. Pallbearers will be Mark Blevins, Randy Blevins, John Blevins, Jayme Blevins, Blake Blevins and Gavin Blevins. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors in Ashford Forest and Sunnybrook in Bristol, Tenn., and her church family. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Nursing Staff at NHC and special friend, Al Sellnor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Piney Flats First Baptist Church, 100 Cherry Street, Piney Flats, TN 37686.
