Hazel B. York

Hazel B. York passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, at her residence in Johnson City after a lengthy illness. She was born on September 10, 1936 in Buladean, N.C., to the late Elmer and Mary Jarnagin Putman.
Mrs. York was a graduate of Tipton Hill High School in Bakersville, N.C., and graduated from Steed College of Business in 1957. She moved to Washington D.C. and was employed by the U.S. Government from 1957 to 1965. In 1965 she and her husband, Richard, moved back to Johnson City and opened York Automotive in Elizabethton, Tenn.
The love of her life, Richard A. York, passed away in 1992. She continued to keep the business open until her retirement.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James C. Putman.
Survivors include her wonderful friends, June Whittamore, June Wood, Janice Green, Geri and Kane Williams and Sonny and Joyce Miller; her caregiver, Judy Taylor; and her home health nurses.
She is survived by her sister, Velma P. Rupert, sister-in-law, Bertie Putman, and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service for Mrs. York will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Chaplain Steven Spell officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
