Building on two years of previous success, the Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County once again surpassed the mark with their annual Steak-N-Burger fundraising dinner.
The event took place Thursday evening at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology and featured former Dallas Cowboys tight end and Elizabethton native Jason Witten and University of Tennessee Athletic Director Phillip Fulmer as guest speakers. Some Club members and others who have been served by the organization also shared their stories for those in attendance.
The theme for the event was that one person can change the world. In keeping with that theme, several of the speakers spoke about individuals who had made significant impacts in their lives. Club officials also encouraged those in attendance to be the “one” who makes a change.
Seated at each table in the building was a child ambassador from the Club to share with those around them what the Club means for them.
The Club also presented it’s inaugural “Legacy Award” to former Elizabethton High School football coach Dave Rider. The award noted it was presented to Rider in honor of his “lifetime commitment to the success and well-being of kids.”
After the speakers had finished, Club Director Ginny Wright thanked those in attendance for their support and generosity. The Club’s goal for the night was to raise $100,000 through the event.
“We’re feeling pretty overwhelmed tonight,” Wright said. “We have raised just a little over $109,000.”
