Barbara Ann Blackmon Vandeventer

Barbara Ann Blackmon Vandeventer, 79, of Elizabethton, went home to Heaven on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, from Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol. Barbara was born in Columbus, Ga., on August 27, 1938 to the late Clarence Blackmon and Polly Harris Blackmon Grimes.
Barbara was an accomplished artist and craft person. She could do anything with her hands. She made beautiful jewelry, cards and baskets and gave them as gifts, which people really loved. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center and she loved her animals, painting and crafts.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Floyd Vandeventer, of the home; a daughter and son, Jilla Vandeventer and Darrell Vandeventer, both of Elizabethton; a sister, Nancy Hensel and husband Bob of San Bruno, Calif.; several nieces and nephews, namely, Steve Hilman, Brenda Hilman Persinger and husband Donnie, Judy Hilman Ashworth and husband Rick, Diane Hodge and husband Hugh, Gordon Rowland and wife Kay, May Slagle and husband Walt, Stephen Kennedy and wife Nadine, Michael Kennedy and wife Liz, Cynthia Talcott, Brian Kennedy and wife Karen, and Rob Hensel and wife Lisa. She is also survived by her dogs, Max and Maggie, and her “grand cats.”
A service to celebrate the life of Barbara Ann Blackmon Vandeventer will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 1, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Tim Tapp, Rev. Travis Biller and Rev. Steve Hilman officiating. Music will be provided by Jerry Barnette and Steve Hilman. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence, 831 Parkway Blvd., Elizabethton, at other times. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Monday. The family would like to thank the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital at Bristol Regional Hospital for the loving care shown to Barbara during her illness.
