Evelyn Carden Lewis, 88, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 1, 2018.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Lovie and Emma Teague Carden.
Mrs. Lewis went to Washington, D.C. to work in the records department at the F.B.I. upon her graduation from Hampton High School. In Washington, is where she met and married her husband of 65 years, Sturgill Lewis, who preceded her in death on September 29, 2016. Evelyn and her husband were local business people for several years. She and her husband were long-time members of Gateway Baptist Church, Bristol, and later members of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Paula (Gary) Vance, Cathy (David) Grindstaff, Daniel (Gina) Lewis and Peter (Becky) Lewis. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Micah Lewis, Ashleigh Lewis, Jonathan Grindstaff, Chad Grindstaff, Jeremy McCann, Tyler McCann, Madison Lewis, Parker Lewis, Lori Feaster, Jacob Feaster and Kaya Feaster, and great-grandchildren, Andrew Grindstaff, Emery Grindstaff, Cora Grindstaff, Cameron McCann, Landon McCann, Addyson Lewis and Keegan Lewis. She is survived by two sisters, Lovie Belle Heffernan and Emily Payne, and one sister-in-law, Kathleen Glover.
Funeral services for Evelyn Carden Lewis will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with David Shorter officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Micah Lewis, Jonathan Grindstaff, Chad Grindstaff, Jeremy McCann, Tyler McCann, Parker Lewis and Jacob Feaster. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Lewis Jr., Ronnie Carden, Randy Lewis, Dr. Keith Morley and Dr. Paul Brown. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Ivy Hall for the loving care that was given to Evelyn and to Sturgill Lewis during their time of illness.
