Larry “Drifty” Powell

Larry “Drifty” Powell, 64, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at his residence. A native of Elizabethton, he was a son of the late Elisha and Lucille Calhoun Powell.
Mr. Powell was a plumber and a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, riding four-wheelers, horseback riding and especially spending time with the light of his life, his granddaughter Reagan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim Powell and Robert Powell, and two sisters, Barbara Fraley and Imogene Hyder.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Patricia Collins Powell, of the home; a daughter, Tracey Powell and fiancé, Alex Daniel, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Reagan Daniel, Elizabethton; four sisters, Cleo Hicks, Linda Garland, Phyllis Crain and Brenda Rasmussen, all of Elizabethton; and two brothers, Randy Powell and Elisha “Pooner” Powell, both of Elizabethton.
A service to honor the life of Larry “Drifty” Powell will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 4, at Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Johnson officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. Interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Larry Collins officiating. Active pallbearers will be David Collins, Dwight Collins, Alex Daniel, Wayne Lyons, Dave Sandora, Matt Jaynes, Rick Cates and Dustin Jaynes. Honorary pallbearers will be Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church members, ATV riding friends, Doe River Gorge family, Warranty Plus Small Engine Repair, Sycamore Shoals Animal Hospital, other family members, Scott Odom, Earl Slagle, Austin and Robin Jaynes. The family would like to express a special thanks for Avalon Hospice, the Regional Cancer Center and Dr. Chakraborty and staff for their loving care.
