Next month area residents will have the opportunity to work on their swings while helping to raise money for non-profit organization providing services to the community’s youth.

The Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County will host the 23rd Annual Dino Senesi Memorial Golf Classic on Monday, Sept. 10, at the Elizabethton Golf Course. Citizens Bank and the law firm LaPorte & Norris are serving as this year’s presenting sponsors for the event.

Proceeds raised by the golf tournament will go directly to benefit the more than 500 members of the Boys & Girls Club in Elizabethton.

Registration will start at 11 am and lunch will be served at Noon.

The tournament will be a four-person team, select shot event with a 1 pm shotgun start. The registration fee for each player is $100, which will include cart and green fees, lunch compliments of Chick-Fil-A, and drinks throughout the day.

There will be a variety of contests and opportunities for players to win prizes. One such prize is a boat, courtesy of Watson’s Marine, that will be available for a winner of a hole-in-one contest. All participants receive a complimentary moisture-wicking Nike polo, a bag of goodies, and entrance into the door prize drawings.

The Classic is named after Dino Senesi, a long-time supporter of the Club and a community member well known for his dedication to and love for children.

“Every year this tournament gets bigger and better, and players are really going to see that,” said Matt Lewis, Golf Committee Chairman for the Club. “It’s not only going to be better for players, but we’re also trying to raise more money. More money means the Club can help more kids, serve more meals, help with more homework, and really, that’s what this whole thing is about.”

The tournament has been a staple in the Elizabethton community for decades, providing crucial funding for the local Club, but this year, its success is even more imperative. As a nonprofit, the Club has multiple sources of funding that aren’t available year after year, according to the Club’s Resource Development and Marketing Director Elizabeth Williams.

“Grants come and go,” Williams said. “A community partner may help one year and may decrease or not give the next year, but the Club has been able to handle that because everyday people in the community choose to step up and support the Club and its Club members.”

That is what Williams and Lewis say they’re looking for in the Golf Classic this year: everyday people who want to help kids.

“This is a great way for businesses to thank their clients or for them to recognize their employees,” Lewis said. “But more than anything, this is a way to help kids have better futures.”
