An inaugural festival set for Joe O’Brien Field is starting to take shape.
Organizers are putting the final pieces in place for the inaugural Betsy Crafts & Drafts festival, set to take place Oct. 13-14 in Elizabethton. The two-day event will feature a multitude of craft vendors, music and other activities for participants. Patrons will also have the chance to sample some craft beer from across the region. The event is scheduled to last from noon to 5 p.m. each day.
Tickets are now on sale for the event. Tickets are $30 for the beer garden and craft festival. Individuals just wanting to participate in the craft festival can attend for $5. Potential patrons can visit www.gobetsy.com to purchase their tickets now.
The theme of the event is all about coming together as a community, according to Chris Little. Little serves as the president of GO BETSY!, the nonprofit group that is organizing the event. All proceeds from the organization are going to benefit various projects going on in Elizabethton and Carter County.
“One thing we are offering during the festival is a special (opportunity) for other local nonprofit organizations to tell the public what they’re all about,” Little said. “We all need to work together. By helping each other, great things can happen.”
For the craft beer enthusiasts in attendance, organizers added the selection will be vast. The festival is working alongside Cherokee and Holston distributors, adding a variety of beer from Asheville to Nashville. Ciders will also be available with several nontraditional flavors.
Another aspect of the event is the craft festival, which will feature multiple local arts and crafts for sale. Little added there are a few spaces available for the festival and that first-time vendors are encouraged to apply.
Mike Hill of artpurveyors.com stated this event will be a great venue for people wanting to “test the waters, so to speak.” Little added those looking to attend should expect a high amount of traffic due to the beer garden and other activities going on.
All items for sale must be made by the vendor.
“We want to have new and unique items available to add excitement,” Little said.
Applications can be found by visiting the organization’s website and are due on Sept. 22.
Little added the festival also recently joined the Tennessee Promise Scholarship program. Students of Northeast State Community College can get all eight hours of required community service in one day by volunteering at the facility. To learn more, email gobesty@yahoo.com or call (423) 213-9262.
