Sammie A. Coefer

Sammie A. Coefer, 90, of Elizabethton, formerly of Watauga, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton. Sammie was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Major and Martha Grindstaff Coefer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Edith Coefer, in 2014, and a grandson, Michael Sochalski.
Sammie had been employed as a maintenance worker and was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of God and enjoyed gospel singing and going to Cherokee to play Bingo.
Those left to cherish his memories include two sons, Sammie Coefer Jr. of Watauga and Jimmy Coefer and wife Debbie of Watauga; two daughters, Loretta Ratti and husband Vince of Pennsylvania and Debbie Sochalski and husband Steve of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren, Heather DiBlassio, Jason Coefer, Will Coefer, Andrew Coefer, Crystal Busse, Vincent Ratti, Steven Sochalski, Jeremy Sochalski and Daniel Sochalski; 10 great-grandchildren, Sydney Coefer, Sabrina Busse, Jacob Busse, Beckett Ratti, Gavin Sochalski, Caitlyn Sochalski, Kylar Sochalski, Jayce Sochalski, Jason Jr. and Ava Sochalski; and one brother, Lawrence Coefer of the South Pacific.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Sammie A. Coefer will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 25, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Teddy Muncey officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at the Grindstaff Cemetery.
