Richard Allen Tittle

Richard Allen Tittle, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Signature Health Care of Elizabethton after a brief illness.
Richard was born November 27, 1933 in Erwin, Tenn., and was a son of the late John Alex and Dellama Norris Tittle. He was a 1950 graduate of Happy Valley High School where he served on the Warriors Basketball team. They were the state champion in 1950. Richard was a 1957 graduate of East Tennessee State College with a BS Degree in English. He served in the Army National Guard, attended U.S. Army Armor School and attained the rank of Captain.
Richard was employed for many years as a Pharmacy Tech at Burgie Drug Store in Elizabethton. After retirement he became active in the Liberty Drama at Sycamore Shoals State Park and was later employed as a greeter at the park. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and the Darrell White Sunday School Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Stout Tittle; one brother, Thomas Tittle; and three sisters, Beverly Tittle Shirley, Dorothy Marie Tittle Hendrix and Eula Mae Tittle.
He is survived by a niece, Susan Sommer, Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; his special friends, Jimmy Bishop, Lisa Bishop and Teresa Bishop Deal; and many friends from the Liberty Drama and Sycamore Shoals State Park Staff.
Funeral services for Richard Allen Tittle will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Jennings officiating. The Eulogy will be given by Jimmy Bishop and Richard Gray. Music will be provided by Grady and Alicia Holder and Carol Bowers, organist. Interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be members of the Darrell White Sunday School Class of First Free Will Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and former employees of Burgie Drug Store. A special “Thank You” to the staff of Signature Health Care for the excellent care that Richard received. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Richard to the Carter County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 134, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
