Nettie Yates

Nettie Yates, 100, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Savior on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Pine Ridge Signature Health Care. Nettie was born in Carthage, Tenn., to her parents, the late Joe and Elizabeth Cardwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Yates, and by seven brothers and one sister.
Nettie and Ralph were the owners of Yates Service Station and Grocery Store. She was an active member of East Side Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church where she had been a member of the choir and the Women’s Missionary Group. She also was a member of the Democratic Party, a notary, and was always willing to help anyone. Nettie enjoyed quilting and had made quilts for everyone in her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Rondell Wayne Yates and wife Jeannie of Bristol, Va.; a daughter, Margaret Kyte and husband Richard of Elizabethton; and four grandchildren, Paige Yates and Ben Yates of Sevierville, Chris Kyte of Elizabethton, and David Yates of Jackson, Miss. Four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Nettie Yates will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Doug Hinshaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
