Edward Jay Gouge

Surrounded by his family, Edward Jay Gouge entered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Gouge was preceded in death by his parents, Hildred Gouge and Iva Young Gouge; his maternal grandparents, Sam and Rose Young; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Nora Gouge; and uncles, Sam Young, Jack Young and Bill Young.
A 1977 graduate of Elizabethton High School, he excelled in baseball. Mr. Gouge attended Milligan College and East Tennessee State University. He received an Associate’s Degree in Electricity from Northeast State Community College. He was a Department of Labor Electrical Journeyman. Mr. Gouge worked in maintenance at several manufacturing companies. Along with his wife, he raised alpacas on the Miller family farm, JoNell Farm, and operated an Alpaca Farm Store. He was a member of Austin Springs United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 18 years, June Miller Gouge, a daughter, Beth Nicole Gouge, Elizabethton, step-daughter, Elinor Grace Gaines (Ben), Courtland MS, step-daughter Scarlett Gouge, Elizabethton, grandson, Austin Fair, step-granddaughter, McKayla Woodby. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Franklin and husband Jerry Franklin, Elizabethton, brother, Larry Gouge and wife Debbie Gouge, Elizabethton, four nephews, Andrew Franklin (Jessica), Timothy Franklin (Cassie), Elizabethton, Dr. Jamis Gouge and Jaren Gouge, Knoxville; three great-nephews, Caleb Franklin, Weston Franklin and Jackson Franklin, all of Elizabethton; two aunts, Elizabeth (Alan) Brackman, Munsey, IN, and Mrs. Martha Young; uncle, Clarence Young (Willa Mae) Ohio; and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Johnson City-Washington County Animal Shelter.
The family will greet friends to share memories on Friday, March 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. until a Celebration of Ed’s life at 7 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Dr. Douglas Brown and Pastor Andrew Stuebs officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Franklin, Timothy Franklin, Andrew Franklin, Leonard Febuary, Tim Broyles and Austin Fair. Honorary pallbearers are Theodore Brown, Billy J.
