Delaney (Bloss) Barnett, 87, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2019, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Bloss was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Mitch and Florence Barnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mitchell Junior (Crook) Barnett; one son-in-law, Jeffery Winters; four brothers-in-law, Sid Gilbert, Sonny Mosley, Charles Becker and Paul Gray; and one sister-in-law, Loveta Becker.
Bloss was in the United States Army, serving from November 7, 1952 until August 22, 1954. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. He also worked in Flint, Mich., and at Holtsclaw Sawmill. Bloss retired from Beaunit Corporation and Roan Mountain State Park. After retirement, Bloss loved gardening and beekeeping and most of all cookouts at his cabin with his family and friends and his beagles and rabbit hunting.
Those left to carry on his loving memory include his beloved wife of 59 years, Wanda Barnett; his daughter, Debra Winters; a son, Douglas Barnett; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Stephanie Barnett; a son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Traci Barnett; his grandchildren, Natashia Winters, Leann Barnett, Harley and Haley Barnett, Mercedes Barnett, Logan Barnett, Noah Barnett and Bentley Gilbert; his great-grandchildren, Tessa Delaney Strickland and Paisley Dawn Barnett; his sisters-in-law, Brenda Hill and husband Don and Delores Gray; his brothers-in-law, Gene Mosley and Wayne Mosley; his brother and sister-in-law, Dana and Pauline Barnett; and many, many special friends.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Delaney (Bloss) Barnett was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 31, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Don Julian officiating. The family received friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service followed at Johnson-Roan View Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Mr. Jon Shell provided bagpipes. Active pallbearers were Don Julian, Gene Mosley, Kim Barnett, Nick McKinney, Dale Davis, Eric Huskins and Don Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Bentley Gilbert, Rob Mosley, Harley Barnett, Logan Barnett, Noah Barnett and Wayne Mosley.
