Heaven gained the sweetest angel on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Kathleen Harmon “Granny,” 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born January 30, 1939 in Butler, Tenn., to Luther and Flossie Dugger Baird. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Burl Harmon, and her infant grandson, Jeffrey Aaron Bradley.
Those left to cherish her memory are three brothers, J.W. Baird and wife Opal of Hampton, Tenn., Jimmy Allen Baird and wife Winnie of Newland, N.C., and Jerry Baird and Anna Hensley of Hampton, Tenn.; her daughters, Connie Tester and husband Mike, Debbie Madgett and husband Chuck, both of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Donna Bradley and husband Jeff of Hampton, Tenn.; and her four granddaughters who were her pride and joy, Kelli Pittman and husband Luke of Newland, N.C., Savannah Madgett and special friend Shane McConnell of Elizabethton, Tenn., Chelsea Garland and husband Dustin of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Emilie Madgett of Elizabethton, Tenn.
Kathleen was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be dearly missed by many. She was raised in the Poga Community and attended Piney Grove Church of Christ, but was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton. She worked in the nursery for many years and attended faithfully until her health declined. She enjoyed watching church services online and attending Bible study at Courtyard Apartments where she lived. She was retired and spent many years cleaning for Stacy’s Carpet at Citizens Bank, Carter County Bank, and East TN Undergarment. She loved family time, shopping at her favorite boutique, The Dainty Darling, and eating at her favorite restaurants, City Market and The Firehouse.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Elizabethton with Mr. Michael Klaus, Pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. or at the home of her daughter, Debbie Madgett, at other times. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Piney Grove Church of Christ Cemetery in Butler (Poga), Tenn. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Active pallbearers will be selected from family, friends and church family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church of Elizabethton. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers at Silver Angels, Kayla, Sheila and Samentha. Continued thanks to Amedisys, Silver Angels, Ivy Hall Rehab and SSH PCU Staff and all her many friends at Courtyard Apartments. Also to the deacons and elders of First Christian Church for bringing her communion each Sunday and special church friends, David and Debbie Woods. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
