Jane M. Hyder, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2019, from her residence. Jane was born in Hampton, Tenn., to the late Meredith and Mary Johnson Morton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Worley S. Hyder Jr.; a son, Randy Hyder; and her sister, Jewell Hughes.
Jane retired as a floral designer in the Food City Floral Department and was a member of Slagle’s United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her pets, Molly and Izzy, spending time with her family, bird watching and watching country music.
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Lawana Slagle and husband Tony of Elizabethton; a son, Calvin Hyder and his friend Robyn of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Chesnee Slagle of Elizabethton and Libby Griffin (Cody) of Watauga; one great-grandson due in June 2019, Casey Griffin; one brother, Robert Jack Morton and wife Kathy of Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Diane Hyder of Watauga; and three nephews, Dennis Geisler, Robert Hughes and Mike Hughes.
A service to celebrate the life of Jane M. Hyder will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Lu Crandall and Pastor Mike Berry officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of her daughter at any time. A private graveside service will be held. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Oaks, Mike Hooks, Ronnie Campbell, Gene Estep, Harry Smith, David Bowery, Ray Glover, Mike Bellamy and Joey Campbell. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Slagle’s United Methodist Church, C/O Women’s Society, 285 Old Watauga Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
