Cathy G. Deal

Cathy G. Deal, 69, of Hampton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Cathy was born in Elizabethton to the late Smith W. Davenport Sr. and Liddie Pearl Carter Davenport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George Davenport, Pharas Davenport, Leroy Davenport, Donnie Davenport and Maynard Davenport; two brothers-in-law, George Lewis and Dan Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Norma Davenport and Shelby Davenport; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Myrtie and Herman Deal.
Cathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church. She had worked as a payroll clerk for the City of Elizabethton. She loved to travel, especially to the beach. Cathy enjoyed spending time with her family, her church family and her countless friends. She also loved to read.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her husband, Charles “Sonny” Deal, of the home; her daughter, Rhonda Clay of Johnson City; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Renee Cretsinger of Johnson City; her step-daughter, Michelle Stevens of Elizabethton; her step-son, Danny Deal, also of Elizabethton; three sisters, Liddie Lewis, Mary Boggs and Lorna Wilson, all of Johnson City; her brother, Smith Davenport Jr. of Hampton; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy Davenport, Betty Bradley, Carol and David Beeler and Roger and Diane Deal; five grandsons, Casey and Samantha Baker, J.D. Clay, Brandon Buchanan, Richard Buchanan and Jacob Deal; one granddaughter, Kayla Buchanan; four great-grandsons, Braylen Baker, Hunter Buchanan, Lucas Buchanan and Kyler Buchanan; three great-granddaughters, Taylor Stevens, Ella Baker and Sonny Banjo Clay. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her special friends, Pat and Bud Wishon, Ruth Roberts, John, Katie and Karen Rednour, Becky and Terry Brumitt, Donna and Tracy Proffitt, Joy Bell’s Class and members of HFBC.
A service to celebrate the life of Cathy G. Deal will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Matthew Pollock and Pastor Norman Markland officiating. Music will be under the direction of David and Ellen Pollock. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4:30 until 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the Whitehead Cemetery in Butler, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be Cathy’s grandsons and family. Honorary pallbearers will be John Rednour, Bud Wishon, Goat Davenport, Dave Beeler, Roger Deal and Johann Coetzee. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Hale Community Ministry, 1301 Arney Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or to Hampton First Baptist Church, 407 1st Avenue, Hampton, TN 37658.
