Bonnie VonCannon Prince

Bonnie VonCannon Prince, 99, of Brentwood, Tenn., formerly of Bluff City, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 28, 2019, from the residence of her daughter in Brentwood. Bonnie was born in the Elk Mills Community of Carter County to the late Aaron Frank and Rebecca Jane Miller VonCannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Prince, in 1989; one brother, Denver VonCannon; and two sisters, Edna V. Potter and an infant sister, Gladys VonCannon.
Bonnie graduated from Milligan College in 1948 and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Elk Mills, then taught at Elizabethton High School, Bluff City High School and Sullivan East High School for 37-1/2 years. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bluff City, where she taught Sunday School, was involved in the Ladies’ Circle and was the chairman in Missions.
Bonnie was a reporter for the Fairmont Garden Club, the treasurer of Bluff City Community Aide, treasurer for Sullivan County Retired Teachers, a member of the Christian Women’s Club and of the Music Club. She was proud to travel and visit all 50 states in the United States and also visited overseas on several occasions. Bonnie was also an accomplished seamstress.
Those left to cherish her wonderful memories include two daughters, Penny Parker and husband John of Maryville, Tenn., and Connie Prince of Brentwood, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Hannah Parker of Los Angeles, Calif., Claudia Parker and Andrea Parker, both of Maryville, Tenn.; and one sister, Ann V. Griffith of Bluff City, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Bonnie VonCannon Prince will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the Bluff City Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Ron Whitacre officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Glenwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Griffith, Jim Kerr, Eric Griffith, Anthony Crane, Adrian Crane and Aaron Crane. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Houser, Bill Ray, Dean VonCannon, Gerry Brown and Jeff Griffith. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession.
