Chrystal Effie Grindstaff Hicks

Chrystal Effie Grindstaff Hicks, 93, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019, at her residence after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Alf and Etta Pierce Grindstaff.
Mrs. Hicks was employed at Elizabethton Steam Laundry for several years and retired from the Laundry Department of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was of the Baptist Faith. She loved to quilt, crochet and cross stitching.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis G. Hicks, February 13, 2000; two sisters, Darlene Hampton and Ruby Hicks; and two brothers, Art and Howard Grindstaff.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Sherry Hicks; two grandchildren, Joshua Lewis Hicks and Abigail LeAnna Brace and husband Matthew; five great-grandchildren, Mikeala Chrystal Hicks, Aldyn Hicks, Isabella Hicks, Harper Rose Hicks and Max Justin Lewis Brace; two sisters, Cleta Mae Kyte and Pat Guinn; two brothers, Dean Grindstaff and wife Floy and Glen Grindstaff; a sister-in-law, Margaret Grindstaff; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Chrystal Effie Grindstaff Hicks will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Siebenaler, minister, officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Monday, will be Josh Hicks, Matthew Brace, Bryan Bradshaw, Josh Brooks, Ryan Bowers and Adam Ellison. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean and Glen Grindstaff, Todd Hampton, Jimmy Carr and Steve Hicks. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Home Health & Hospice and the staff of Rehab at Hillview Health Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hicks to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (ff.org) or ProjectPurple.org for pancreatic cancer.
