CONTRIBUTED — On Saturday at 9 a.m. sharp 21 Keep Carter County Beautiful (KCCB) volunteers showed up armed with shovels, rakes, and pickaxes for the second annual beautification planting project on the Tweetsie Trail, adjacent to Medical Care at 1500 West Elk Ave. The event was sponsored by Keep Carter County Beautiful, the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation, and Medical Care.
After three hours of hard digging in the old Tweetsie Trail railroad bed packed with rocks, many flowering shrubs, blueberry bushes, assorted evergreens, and a Flowering Plum Tree were planted. Layers of mulch were then applied.
Most of the shrubs and evergreens were donated by the local Elizabethton Lowe’s store, thanks to the Store Manager, Shane Case. Additional flowering shrubs were donated by Vest Greenhouse. Mike Mains, Director of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation, provided mulch, weed barrier cloth, and water. Farm Supply of Elizabethton provided the necessary potting soil and fertilizers. Elizabethton City Councilman Mike Simerly coordinated with the Elizabethton Fire Department to come by late afternoon for deep watering. Special thanks to Carter County Commissioner Ross Garland for coordinating and gathering all of the shrubs, bushes, and trees.
Above all, KCCB would like to thank everyone that made this project possible. It is wonderful what you can accomplish when the community comes together to make Carter County a better place to live, work, and play in.
Remember, “Together we can make a difference!!!”
