Former Jihadist-turned-Christian Kamal Saleem is coming to Carter County Sunday, May 26, sharing his story of coming to Christ and sharing how his faith has radically changed his life.

Saleem said he hopes to spread the message that Jesus loves all people unconditionally.

“My life was not like this before,” Saleem said. “This is what calls me.”

He said he was taught to be a radical Muslim growing up, but after a car accident over a decade and a half ago, he said he found Christ, and he has been sharing his life story all over the country for roughly 13 years.

“Many people are hearing about the love of God,” he said. “It is about finding out God does not hate. He wants everyone to live in harmony and peace.”

He described a confusion he finds in other people about how to perceive Christianity, including from fellow Christians.

“A lot of Christians do not know what Christianity is really about,” he said. “He wants all people to know Him, to love people for who they are.”

A major motivation about his message to others, however, is his outreach to American Muslims. He said a large part of what he does is outreach and raising awareness for what Christianity is really about.

“A lot of Muslims have not understood the differences [between Islam and Christianity],” he said. “My job is to bring awareness about Christianity.”

He said many Muslims in the States are converting to Christianity just as he did.

“There is an influx of Muslims coming into America right now,” Saleem said. “Are we ready to receive them? And how do we do that?”

Saleem will share his life story at Fellowship Community Church, located at 430 East Fourth Avenue in Watauga. He will be speaking at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 26.

“Our ministry lets the church know this is a loving God,” Saleem said. “It is a humbling experience.”
