John Robert “Bo” Alvis Jr.

John Robert “Bo” Alvis Jr., 68, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019, at his home.
Bo was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late John Robert Alvis Sr. and Marie Cullen Kelly Alvis.
Bo graduated from Science Hill High School in 1968 and attended East Tennessee State University. He worked at Sherwood Chevrolet for many years and most recently was self-employed.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Alvis; one son, Slayden “Beaver” Hunt III and his wife Hallidee Hunt of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughters, Annissa “Buffe” Maupin and Dena Cunningham; son, Billy Kyker Jr., of Johnson City, Tenn.; three grandsons, Slayden Hunt IV, Chase Foster and Chase Cunningham; two sisters, Shay Lowe and Pat Kidd; one brother, Billy Alvis and his wife Sharon; sisters-in-law, Karen Greer and her husband Bill and Ginger Luttman and her husband Jim; brothers-in-law, Steve Hankins and Thomas E. Garland; nieces, Kelly Conley and her husband Mike, Angela Johnson, Rachel Kidd and Leah Kidd; nephew, Justin Alvis and his wife Cicely; great-nieces and nephews, Michael Conley, Centaine Conley, Caylen Conley and Gaines Johnson; and special friend, Amy Christenberry.
The family of Bo Alvis will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Grace Free Will Baptist Church, 2110 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City, TN 37604. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Curtis Hurt and Pastor David Foster officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Bo’s memory to Washington County Humane Society, 2101 W. Walnut Street, Johnson City, TN 37604 and Washington County Animal Shelter, 3411 N. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
