SURREY, ENGLAND – For the second straight year and third time of his career, former ETSU men’s golfer Rhys Enoch will play in a major championship.

On Monday, 10 U.S. Open sectionals were held with 60 spots on the line and Enoch punched his ticket to next week’s U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Enoch, who has played in two Open Championships (2014 and 2018) secured one of the 14 spots from the Walton Heath Golf Club. Enoch finished the 36-hole qualifying event at 8-under-par 136 (66-70).

In Monday’s opening round, Enoch carded a 6-under 66 on the New Course where he totaled one eagle, five birdies, 11 pars and one bogey.

Enoch then followed that up with a 2-under 70 on the Old Course as he registered three birdies over a four-hole stretch from No. 13 – No. 16, which helped move him back into the coveted top-14 and avoided the playoff to determine the final spot.

South Africa’s Dean Burmester earned medalist honors after finishing 16-under-par 128, while Thomas Pieters also tied with Enoch at 8-under.

Sam Horsfield finished second at 12-under-par 132, while Marcus Fraser and Clement Sordet tied for third at 10-under-par 134.

The 2019 U.S. Open will be held at Pebble Beach, beginning next Thursday, June 13.

Last year, Enoch made the cut at the Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Enoch played for ETSU from 2007-2012 and earned an individual berth to the NCAA Championship in 2010 after sharing medalist honors in the NCAA Regional.

Enoch was the 2008 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and four-time all-conference performer.
