Samuel Lawrence Stevens, 75, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord at Hillview Nursing Home on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. He was the son of the late Charlie and Delia Townsend Stevens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 16 brothers and sisters.
Samuel was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and had served as a volunteer fireman for 18 years with the Stoney Creek Fire Department. He worked as a TV technician for 30 years at R&M Radio and TV, before retiring as the owner and operator of Stevens TV Repair.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Hazel Stevens, of the home. Several nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Samuel Lawrence Stevens will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Kenneth Jordan and Rev. Jerry Cannon officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Smith Sisters and Bobby Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23, in the Wilson Cemetery in Stoney Creek with Rev. Dean Smith and Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Active pallbearers will be Robert Bowers, Shirley Bowers, Jerry Buckles, Leonard Buckles, Dwayne Buckles and Bud Hambrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Bowers, Jonathan Bowers, Matthew Bowers, Ray Brooks, Russell Peters, Bobby Smith and Gerald Buckles. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession. The family would like to send a “heartfelt thanks” to the staff and caregivers of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Hillview Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Samuel during his illness.
