Edward Lon Lovelace Jr.

Edward Lon Lovelace Jr., 64, of Gray, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the Heart Hospital at Johnson City Medical Center after complications from an extended illness.
Mr. Lovelace was a native of Carter County. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Lovelace Sr., and his mother, Mary “Madge” Dickenson Lovelace of Elizabethton, and a brother-in-law, Harry Carr, of Hampton.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lovelace, of the home; a daughter, April Lovelace and long-term boyfriend, Darrell Gosnell, of Flag Pond; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Tara Franklin, of Kingsport; two grandsons, Trever and Taylor Hamilton; a granddaughter, Olivia Pugh; and two sisters, Brenda and husband Larry Peters Sr., of Stoney Creek, and Pamela Carr, of Hampton. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and special “fur children,” Lilly and Baby Cat, also survive.
Edward served his country in the Army as a Military Policeman. He worked for 20 years at Fort Henry Mall as a security guard and finally as Chief of Operations and Security, before leaving. He worked several other security jobs including armed security, Target, First Tennessee Bank, Johnson City Juvenile Detention Center and Holston Valley Hospital before becoming disabled and having to retire in 2014. He was also a Security Trainer throughout his career.
Mr. Lovelace had a love of music and guitar, teaching himself how to play. He was a great lover and advocate of animals. Edward had a passion for cooking, gardening, riding motorcycles and fishing. He was also a member and supporter of the Lions Club for many years.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Heart Hospital at Johnson City Medical Center for the care and compassion they have shown through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you send donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or to your local animal shelter.
