Larry William Townson

Larry William Townson, 65, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, from his residence. Larry was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Jake and Frances Barnett Townson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Townson and Randy Townson; two nephews, Randall Townson and Jon Townson; two great-nephews; one great-niece; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steward and Georgia Whitehead.
Larry was the owner and operator of Townson Body Shop and was a member of Sunset Free Will Baptist Church. He had also worked at the Paint and Lacquer Store in Johnson City, Tenn., where he mixed paint for automobiles. Larry was a prankster and a good jokester, he loved playing pranks on people.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Debbie Townson, of the home; his children, Christopher Townson and fiancée Heather Penley, April Mitchell and husband Chad and Timmy Lambert; his grandchildren, Dalton Mitchell, Jacob Church, Lucas Maney and soon to be grandson, Luke Mitchell; several nieces and nephews, who loved him very much; a brother, Ronnie Townson and wife Fairy; a sister, Donna Sluder and husband Robert; his adopted family, Lillie Mae Stevens and the Stevens sisters, Vanessa Cox.
A graveside service to celebrate and honor the life of Larry William Townson will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 6, in the Townson Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain, Tenn., with Rev. Terry Richardson, Rev. Norman Loveless and Rev. Lester Perkins officiating. Music will be provided by Vanessa Cox. The family will receive friends at the residence at any time. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 3:50 p.m. Saturday. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his hospice caregivers, Greg, Candance, Anna and Robbie, for the loving care shown to Larry during his illness.
