John Henry Holtsclaw

John Henry Holtsclaw, 79, of Hampton, passed away Monday, July 8, 2019, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
A native of Avery County, N.C., he was a son of the late Henry and Millie Adkins Holtsclaw.
John was retired as a nursery worker. He was a member of God’s Blessings Church in Elk Park where he served as Assistant Pastor. John was known through other churches. He also served as an EMT volunteer in the Avery County Rescue Squad where he served as Captain. John loved his church families as well as his own family. He loved to help other people.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lovella Harrison Holtsclaw; two step-sons, Jack Gibbs and Paul Gibbs; and two sisters.
Survivors include a step-son, Dean and Darlene Gibbs of Avery County, N.C.; a step-daughter, Annette and Mike Brown, Johnson City; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Howard and Brenda Holtsclaw, Wes Holtsclaw and friend, Linda, all of Hampton, and Buster Holtsclaw, Elk Park, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for John Henry Holtsclaw will be conducted at noon Thursday, July 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bob Holtsclaw and Pastor Ronald Stevens officiating. Music will be provided by Pastor Howard “Mouse” Clawson. Interment will follow in the Jones Cemetery, Buck Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Robbie Holtsclaw, Gary Holtsclaw, Chris Gibbs, Tracy Holtsclaw, Bobby Holtsclaw and Howard “Mouse” Clawson. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour at noon.
