The grand opening of the new Eagle Center Co-op will be held Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at 507 E. Elk Ave. The event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m.; book signings by local coaches and close to 30 vendors will be on hand.
Local sports coaches and now authors C.Y. Peters and Tony Hardin will be on hand to sign copies of their respective books from 1 to 3 p.m. during the grand opening.
Peters will autograph his book “Little Men of the Mountain,” a comprehensive retelling of the 1960 Hampton Bulldogs’ journey to the state championship.
“I consider it an honor to be able to sign books for the public at [Eagle] center,” said Peters.
Former Elizabethton Cyclone basketball coach Tony Hardin will be at the center also signing copies of his self-help book called “Everyone Can Win.” Hardin will also be at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday for another book signing session.
Lisa and John Bunn were the previous owners of the Coffee Company. However, they were not ready to retire when they decided to take on a new challenge of keeping the Eagle Center, a local treasure, going.
Bill and Ann Carter previously owned the building that houses the center. Bill Carter also serves the city as a member of the Elizabethton City Council.
The center has been used for years for locals to show off their tradecraft.
According to the Eagle Center’s new owner, Lisa Bunn, a ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. during the grand opening. She expects many vendors will be present as well.
Vendors will be selling many different items, such as antiques, collectibles, interior decorations, pottery, jewelry and tools.
“We’ve added the Blue River Art Gallery, which used to be located in the Ritz Mini-Mall,” Bunn said. “The gallery’s owner, Karen Hitchcock, decided to close and move the gallery to the Eagle Center, along with several of her artists.
“Dealers are excited, and have been working with me to change the look of the building since I took ownership,” said Bunn.
Bunn also said the new hours of operation for the center will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
