A little over a year ago, local resident Adam Townsend decided to take his skills and open a company that would benefit not only the downtown business owners, but businesses and residents across the Northeast Tennessee region. Townsend Plumbing & Locating Solutions is a full-service plumbing business that keeps things flowing throughout the Tri-Cities and they do so with the determination to provide quality above all else.
From small plumbing repair for residential homes to commercial plumbing repairs, Townsend is a licensed, bonded and insured company that does everything other than pump septic tanks.
Adam Townsend is from Hampton, Tenn., and many may recognize him as a professional fighter. He takes pride in staying true to his roots in Carter County by raising his family here and doing business here in his own backyard. Townsend said, “I love where I am from and I love this small town and the fact that everybody knows everybody.”
Townsend went on to say, “I love how you can see someone and talk to people and have a good conversation no matter where you go here.” Those same friendly bonds that make living in Elizabethton, Hampton and other areas of Carter County, Tenn., so inviting also make it worthwhile to be a business owner in the area. Whether you have a brick and mortar shop in beautiful downtown Elizabethton, or you own a service company like Townsend Plumbing & Location Solutions, this is just an area that is ideal for business and thanks to small business including local service companies, the area has a better opportunity for growth that can help sustain the region and offer the younger generation a reason to stay and grow.
Townsend has worked in the plumbing industry for more than a decade and after working for others throughout his career, he decided to branch out and work for himself and build his company from the ground up. He credits David Salts from David Salts Plumbing with giving him a great deal of work and for helping him out tremendously during this first year of business. Something that is heard often from businesses in downtown Elizabethton and throughout the region is that other business owners will bend over backwards to help another business succeed and it’s nice to know that those gestures extend to the local skilled service companies.
Townsend is not only a local business owner, but is also a parent of two small children. His sons, ages four and 11, are benefitting from their dad owning a business. Through the work that Townsend does, his sons understand the true value of working hard to earn your way in life. His oldest son often goes to work with him and thanks to that, he can not only see his dad work hard to provide for him, but he also has the perfect opportunity to learn a valuable skill set that he can use in life.
As many have noticed in recent years, skilled trade professionals are high in demand but there are not as many available as there may have been 20 and 30 years ago. Townsend said that he has many customers tell him that they have found difficulty in finding plumbing services because companies are backed up with heavy workloads. Something that he insists on with his work is to always be upfront with his customers and to always be on time and provide high quality workmanship on every job he takes.
Adam said that he loves seeing the mountains, lakes and other natural beauty as well as local resorts that surround Elizabethton and Carter County and he would love to see more marketing for whitewater rafting, hiking, lake activities and other outdoor play to bring in more people to enjoy what the area offers. He feels that tourism is where more money will come into the area and since Carter County does not currently have any large-scale factory work, the tourism industry is a great place to start with building the economy.
Townsend also said that it’s nice to see new businesses including Riverside Taphouse, Jiggy Ray’s Pizzeria and other business in downtown Elizabethton where people can go have a beer or a soda or a good meal and just spend time walking downtown and visiting local small businesses. He said, “I think people are doing a great job now at figuring out what our downtown needs and they are working to make it better and they are doing it right.”
