TownView is hosting a reunion party to help celebrate Johnson City’s 150th birthday during healthcare history month.

Johnson City is celebrating its 150th birthday with July as healthcare history month. The TownView building is a huge part of this history and we are happy to open our doors, stepping back in time, with a fun-filled reunion celebration! The reunion will take place at 114 West Fairview Ave., Johnson City, in the old Appalachian/Memorial Hospital on Thursday, July 18, from 4-7 p.m. This event will be co-hosted with the Johnson City Downtown Authority to help us celebrate our history and revitalization. The party will have a live DJ playing music of the decades, games and prizes, great southern foods, classic car show, save the seagrave fundraiser, door prizes, scavenger hunt, etc. The first 100 guests will receive a Memorial Hospital commemorative T-shirt that they can take home as a keepsake. We want to invite the community to come share their stories, memories, leave their mark on our history wall and help us celebrate a nearly 100-year-old building that remains a staple in our beautiful downtown.

TownView staff and residents are so excited to get to showcase this beautiful place to everyone that wants to step back into a piece of Johnson City’s history. TownView has residents that not only retired here but have worked here when it was the Memorial Hospital. It is a neat thing hearing residents’ stories about how they worked here and now have come back to spend their retirement.

“When we talk about TownView and our location in the former Memorial Hospital building, it brings back fond memories for so many people, especially if they worked here, and we love hearing their stories,” explains Amy Fulkerson, the executive director of TownView. “But more than it being a workplace, I love the connection I find with folks who were born here, as it is my birthplace as well!”Amy continues, “It is because of this and hearing from folks that they would love to come see the building that we are having this reunion. We want to offer them the opportunity to see it and to have that feeling of coming home.”
