Emma Saylor Bowers Smith

Emma Saylor Bowers Smith, 73, of Watauga, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Leroy and Bertie Kate Thompson Saylor.
Emma was a 1963 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a graduate of East Tennessee State University. She was a retired employee of Johnson City Eye Clinic after 41 years of service. She was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and a member and served as president for several years of Woodmen of America.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Elva Lee Campbell and Betty Gene Dugger, and four brothers, Bobby Leroy Saylor, Larkin Thomas Saylor, William Jack Saylor and Edward Vernon Saylor.
Survivors include her children, Andrea (Chuck) Irick and Brian (Rebekah) Bowers; two step-children, Eric Smith and Amanda Allen; her grandchildren, Mitchell Lee Bowers, Michael Thomas Rader, Ashlyn Kate Bowers, Alaina Kennedy Bowers and Amber Louise White; her step-grandchildren, Lindsay and Hayden Allen; one great-grandson, Keaton Thomas Rader; one step-great-grandson, Maddox Cochran; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to Celebrate the Life of Emma Saylor Bowers Smith will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, August 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Wilson and Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Music will be provided by Scott Reynolds, Ray Don Markland, Joel Norris and Jane Walker. The graveside service will be private. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Judy and Obie Grindstaff and family and Jana Lisa Hicks for all the love and care shown to Emma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Emma to the Lynn Valley Baptist Church, Children Ministries, 1367 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
