Second Harvest Food Bank holds Stable Lives, Stable Communities event

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee invites residents in Carter County to a new event which provides a variety of resources, Stable Lives, Stable Communities. The inaugural Connecting Carter County event is Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. til noon. East Side Free Will Baptist Church, located at 704 Siam Road in Elizabethton, has graciously offered to host the food bank, area agencies, and attendees from the community.

Expect to see the Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry truck for a small food distribution for those who attend the Connecting Carter County event. Representatives from agencies will provide information and resources related to jobs, housing, childcare, counseling, aging and disability, general health, caregivers, volunteering, domestic violence, and other topics which can help create stable communities.

“We are grateful to be able to feed people who need it during uncertain times, but we also realize that we can do so much more to help provide resources and opportunities to encourage life stabilizing solutions for the people we serve,” said Executive Director, Rhonda Chafin.

The food bank recently implemented a new strategic plan aimed ending hunger by the year 2025. A major component of the strategic plan includes providing important resources to families and individuals which will end the cycle that leads to generational chronic hunger among the residents living in Northeast Tennessee.
