Former school director responds to letter from former board member

To the Editor:
Having recently read the letter written (by a former board member) praising the current city school director, I felt that city residents should be exposed to a much different and more accurate opinion. The aforementioned board member was voted out of office and thereafter allowed (by the director) to distribute diplomas at graduation, attend the Top 10 Percent Dinner as his guest, attend Honors Day as a presenter, and accompany him as he applied for the Sullivan County director’s job.
The current director doesn’t live in Elizabethton, cannot vote for board members, and has two school-age children, who do not attend our school system. His evaluation (by the entire board) released in mid-July gave him the lowest two scores in “develops good staff morale” and “delegates authority to staff members appropriate to the position each holds.” Even as this was just released, some board members are discussing extending his contract. Please, wake up Elizabethton, our excellent school system is being driven into the group and our children with it.
