Roy L. Harmon, Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Tennessee and divisions Carter County Bank and Mountain Community Bank, announces his retirement from the company.
Born and raised in Kingsport, Harmon attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He began a long, successful career in the financial industry in 1976 at Arthur Anderson & Company, in Chattanooga. In 1980, he served in various roles at First American Regional Bank (now Regions Bank) in Knoxville including CFO, CCO and Manager of Business Banking. His career with Bank of Tennessee began in 1991, where he led the company as CEO and Chairman of the Board. During Harmon’s tenure, he oversaw the company’s expansion into Middle Tennessee and Knoxville markets, multiple branch redesigns, the bank’s growth to over 1 billion in assets, as well as leading the company to the most profitable year in the bank’s history in 2018.
“The employees and customers of Bank of Tennessee have been blessed by the leadership of Mr. Harmon,” said Dale Fair, President and Chief Operating Officer. Fair continued, “His devotion to this company, to our staff, and to our customers is clear and felt by all. Mr. Harmon leaves Bank of Tennessee one of the most profitable, stable financial institutions in the state of Tennessee, and much of that is due to his guidance.”
Harmon has also been a community leader and advocate for many organizations that make a positive impact on the entire state of Tennessee including Kingsport Alderman, Chairman of Funfest, Public Art Committee for the City of Kingsport, founding member of Friends in Need Health Clinic, the Tennessee Lottery Board, Rotary, World President’s Organization and the Tennessee Society of CPAs, to name just a few.
Harmon, and his wife, Liza, have three children and four grandchildren living across the United States. They both look forward to spending more time with their growing family.
Bank of Tennessee’s Management Team and Board of Directors has an established succession plan with Dale Fair stepping into the role as CEO.
A native of Elizabethton, Fair attended the University of Tennessee and played football there after graduating from Elizabethton High School in 1973. After completing college, Fair was a high school teacher and football coach in middle Tennessee for several years until moving back to Elizabethton in 1981 to accept a position at Citizens Bank.
In 2002, he left the banking industry to serve as County Mayor of Carter County. Fair held the elected position for four years, after which he accepted the position of Director of First Tennessee Human Resource Agency, which provides assistance and social services for individuals in Carter, Greene, Johnson, Hawkins, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington Counties in Northeast Tennessee. In July of 2012, Fair returned to the banking industry as President and CEO of Carter County Bank.
