New festival announced for Carter County

GO BETSY in association with “Meet The Mountains” is pleased to announce that the “Meet Carter County” Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24. This joint venture will help promote all the great things Carter County has to offer.
Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with Free Kids Trout Fishing at the Roan Mountain Community Park (not State Park) which is located at the intersection of 19E and Hwy. 143. Children from ages 2-12 will be allowed to fish without licenses, but older than 12 will need all necessary stamps and fishing license. This event is being sponsored by Carter County Hunting and Fishing Association along with the TWRA as a way to promote the new “Trout Unlimited” Fishing Trail in Roan Mountain.
Also starting at 10 a.m. will be events at the Covered Bridge in Elizabethton. Over 40 booths will be set up featuring some of the finest artisans in the area. Local community services will be on tap to answer any questions in how they help local citizens. Booths will also be provided by our Emergency Responders, and there will be a table for people wishing to register to vote.
Foods trucks will be present including Freddy’s Steak Burgers, DODOs BBQ, Gamblers Concessions and others. Prices are very reasonable, in line with fast food prices.
Multiple vendors will be participating, including Cabela’s, TWRA, THP rollover machine, WAHOOS Kayaking under the bridge, and “A Walk in Their Boots” military exhibits. All exhibits are weather permitting.
Music will be on tap for most of the day. Bring your lounge chair and listen to Contemporary, Indy, Bluegrass, Country and Southern Rock. Lineup includes 12:30 p.m., Tim Nave, 1:45 p.m., Tony Vines, 4 p.m., Julie Williams, 5:30 p.m., Boozy Creek Grass (9 person bluegrass band), 6:30 p.m., JP Mathes and Fiddling Leona, and 7:30 p.m. headliner will be Tennessee Champagne.
Carter County Car Club will be downtown with their Saturday Night Car Show from 5-9 p.m. and the festivities will end with the outdoor movie “FROZEN,” sponsored by Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department.
