When the battle chooses you

It seemed like everyone I encountered this week, whether in church, the community, or the workplace that everyone was facing a battle of some kind. They all came in a variety of different packages. Some were small problems and some were giant battles that seem like a tough mountain to climb, then some were facing some God-sized battles. Some battles in life we get to pick and choose, some are worth the fight and some are better left alone. This rings even truer if you have kids and/ or teenagers. Some battles aren’t worth the effort for the reward that you will receive. However, sometimes in life, you don’t get to pick and choose your battle. Sometimes “The Battle Chooses You.” Sometimes the battle comes at you fast and furious and it seems like life is coming at you from all angles and you have no time to think, plan, or even seek advice.
In (2 Chronicles 20) King Jehoshaphat found himself in a similar situation. The battle, however, was a real battle with real enemies coming at him from 3 different angles. The bible says that king Jehoshaphat feared, but he was seeking the Lord. In verses 6-12, he began to pray a prayer to God that we should all remember and write down. The prayer begins like this –
Verse 6. “And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?”
Then when the “Battles of Life” come our way we can go back and claim this prayer. In this prayer King Jehoshaphat began to remind God of all the Great things he had done and promises he had made to his people. I believe even more than that, the king was reminding himself of all the Great things God had done in his life, and the battles God had already won for him. Then, he simply spoke to God and said “We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are upon you, Lord.”
King Jehosaphat knew the battle was too big for him to face on his own. So, he asked God for his help. When the battle seems too big for you, that’s when you know it not your battle. Its “GOD’S BATTLE.” God spoke and told him you need not fight for this battle is not yours, but mine. There is no need to fight, but stand still. Sometimes God just wants us to give the battle back to him. He doesn’t want us to fight, just be still and know that he is God and he will take care of us.
The next day God still ask Jehoshaphat to come down to the battle, but only to see God be victorious over a battle that seemed merely IMPOSSIBLE. God showed up and fought his battle for him that day. Instead of Jehoshaphat finding all the Biggest and most powerful guys for his army to go and fight, Jehoshaphat appointed singers to go with him on the front line of the battle. The singers began to PRAISE the LORD in the midst of the Battle. Then, God who is faithful, began to confuse the armies that were approaching Jehoshaphat and they began to fight each other and kill each other in the battle. God brought the victory that day, but Jehoshaphat was still called to show up for battle and give God the praise he deserved.
So when the battle seems to big for you to fight, give GOD his battle back!! If you have been in this Christian walk very long, you know, you are either in a battle, coming out of a battle, or getting ready to go into a battle. Just always remember if the battle is too big for you, its not your battle. Seek the Lord, pray a prayer that reminds you that God is who he says he is and he does what he says he will do, show up to the battlefield, Praise and worship God, and watch him fight the battle for you. GOD WANTS HIS BATTLE BACK!!! GOD BLESS!!!
